Hemp House
Built in 1996, this house is certainly the first made of hemp in Canada! During our stay in the Mauricie region, we had the chance to visit it and meet the woman who built it. 22 years later, the house is still doing well and its owner still loves it ! ?
In addition to enjoying the healthy side of such a construction, France particularly appreciated the lightness of the material and the ease of working it.
In 1996, the cultivation of industrial hemp was not legal yet in Canada. The materials were therefore imported from France where techniques and materials for hemp construction were already available.
It took only a month and a half to assemble the walls of the house thanks to the formwork technique.

On the left is the part of the house that has been finished with a lime coating. On the right, the walls were left bare.
